Founded by Alban E. Smajli in 2011 + published by lemilestudios, LE MILE is a celebration of new ideas for a new generation. The Autumn/Winter issue is an insightful and stylish journey through art exhibitions, artists’ visions and contemporary fashion, showcasing creativity from Odessa to Berlin to Liverpool.
The magazine takes a detailed look at some of the most thought-provoking art exhibitions across Europe; one article explores Lorenzo Vitturi’s sculptural explorations of urban culture and change outside Western cities (now showing in London, Toronto and Luxembourg), while another delves into Theaster Gates’ Amalgam exhibition in the Tate Liverpool, which deals with the forced eviction of a tiny island off the coast of Maine. LE MILE also features interviews with artists, such as Jeff Muhs, who creates striking concrete sculptures. Interspersed between articles are innovative photoshoots, such as Bleu by Louise and Maria Thornfeldt, and Ease Attitude by Pasquale Ettore. These spreads display some of the best of contemporary fashion, and are presented as their own mini art exhibitions.
Overall, LE MILE is an excellent magazine; full of beautiful photography and art (hardly surprising for an art magazine), but also thoughtful and intelligent, giving its readers an insight into different worlds and cultures through the art and artists that it features.
